Maggie Grace (born Margaret Grace Denig on 21 September 1983) is an American actress, best well-known for her role as Shannon Rutherford on the ABC TV series Lost as well as Kim Mills in the Taken trilogy. Maggie Grace was born in Worthington in Ohio. She dropped out of school after her parents split up to move in Los Angeles to live with her mother. However, in 2001, despite difficulties with money it was possible get her first significant part in the web-based video show Rachel's Room in the role of Rachel's Room's lead character. The actress was able to secure a Young Artist Award nomination in 2002, for her role as the 15 year old murder victim Martha Moxley in the television movie Murder set in Greenwich. Grace appeared as Shannon Rutherford on the Lost TV show in 2004. The show featured her as the principal protagonist for two seasons and also won an award for her performance, a Screen Actors Guild Award. Grace left the show to focus on her professional film work. She had starred alongside Tom Welling opposite in The Fog back in 2005. The role she played was Kim Mills opposite Liam Neeson (both in Taken the year 2008) on Suburban Girl as well as The Jane Austen Book Club. She reprised her role in Taken 2 (2011) and Taken 3 (2013).She also played Alice in Malice in Wonderland, a modern version from the Lewis Carroll novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Grace reprised her role as Shannon in Lost, including the finale. She also appeared in the sixth season of Californication. She portrays Faith a groupie and a muse to the stars who captures the attention of Hank Moody played by David Duchovny. Gyllenhaal is a member of her family, and is the older cousin of Jake Gyllenhaal. As a teenager She began working as a small part-time actress for her father. She also appeared in Donnie Darko along with her twin brother. Her next roles were in Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind in 2002, as well as Mona Lisa Smile (2003). Gyllenhaal's lead roles in Secretary, a romantic comedy-drama erotico, and Sherrybaby (a film) received her nominations for Golden Globe Awards. Following several commercially-successful films, like World Trade Center in 2006 her name was recognized more widely for her role as Rachel Dawes (the superhero) in The Dark Knight (2007). Following her acclaimed performance as a mother who is not married on the screen in Crazy Heart (2009), she was awarded the Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. The roles she played in subsequent films include Nanny McPhee as well as The Big Bang and Hysteria. The other roles she played were a Secret Service agent in the action thriller White House Down (2013) and a musician in the film Frank (2014) and her role as the lead in the drama The Kindergarten Teacher (2018). Gyllenhaal started her career as director, screenwriter and script writer, when she wrote and directed her psychological horror film The Lost Daughter. The film received the award for Best Screenplay in the Venice International Film Festival, and was later nominated by the Academy Award.
